First
Tunnels is a successful and established supplier of Polytunnels.
Customers range from individual enthusiasts, government organisations
such as HM Prisons and NHS Trusts and even garden TV personalities
from Gardeners World, such as Bob Flowerdrew and Alan Titchmarsh.
First Tunnels polytunnels are sectional buildings which allows
the grower the wildest choice and specification to provide
the ideal environment for the crop in production. Their straight
sides give excellent working and growing space and are a huge improvement
on the old style elliptical tunnels.
Location
We are located in a sm all village called Barrowford. This village lies in the shadow of Pendle Hill and nestles between the old Victorian mill towns of Nelson and Colne in Lancashire. We can be found conveniently located off junction 13 of the M65. In our factory, we have two bending machines, tube swagers, punching and tube forming machines. We have sawing machines and a full range of metalwork facilities. This allows us to have complete control of our manufacturing processes to ensure high quality at very competitive prices.
Manufacture
All
our Polytunnels use large diameter, high tensile steel tube manufactured
by Europe’s steel manufacturers. All steel used is galvanised
inside and out for maximum corrosion protection and to the Z35 specification.
This means that it has a much higher bending resistance than standard
mild steel tube and is therefore stronger in use.
The swage joint system is used on all our Polytunnel designs. A
swage is where the tube end is reduced in diameter. This allows
the tubes to be sleeved together giving a low cost and a extremely
strong joint, which means the structures are fast to build and have
a very strong anchorage in the ground. They all have excellent side
clearance and shoulder room. Close hoops spacings also increases
the strength and reduces unsightly polythene or plastic ‘sag’
and consequently loss of headroom.
Whilst our standard structures are sturdy and strong, certain sites
may demand greater performance. Crop bars are usually added to increase
snow load performance and wind resistance not to mention their use
for suspending hanging baskets.
